Emperor Shen-Nung, considered the father of ancient traditional Chinese medicine, recorded the use of about 365 medicinal plants that he personally tested around 5,000 years ago. Among these plants, one of his favorites was the root he referred to as a panacea (roughly translated to ‘good for everything’), to which he attributed a list of properties and 21 uses. Among the most outstanding were its stimulation of energy and assistance with erectile dysfunction. Since then, ginseng has only gained fame, most notably in those two areas (1). As the years have passed, its good reputation continues to gain favor.

To fight the common ailments of lack of energy, vitality and concentration that constantly hinder our routine, we have a recipe to share that will lift your spirits when you need it most in a delicious, easy, quick, and healthy way.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small piece of red ginseng root (or the contents of 1 supplement capsule)

  • 1 green tea bag

  • 2 fresh mint leaves

  • 2 cups of boiled water

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • 1 cup cold water

  • Ice (optional)

  • Stevia or honey (optional)

Directions:

Add the two cups of boiled water and ginseng to a heatproof glass pitcher and stir. Allow it to steep and, once it cools slightly, add the green tea. Meanwhile, place the blueberries, fresh mint, and cup of cold water in a blender. Mix together well. When the tea is completely cool, remove the tea bag and mix in the blueberry smoothie. Add a few drops of honey or stevia and ice if you prefer.

Serve a glass to drink and keep the rest in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

Do not consume more than three cups a day. High doses of ginseng can cause headaches and other discomforts.
