How Green Tea Burns Fat

¿Cómo el té verde te ayuda a quemar la grasa?

If you’re working hard to lose weight, meet your new best friend: green tea.

Green tea has been used for thousands of years by some of the healthiest cultures on earth to burn fat and boost energy and metabolism. But how does green tea work its magic? Let’s check the science.

Convert fat to energy

Green tea contains antioxidants called catechins, which help break down fat to fuel your body.(1) They are especially potent during exercise. One study found that men who supplemented with green tea extract burned 17% more fat during exercise.(2)

Other researchers concluded that green tea increases fat burning both during exercise and while at rest.(3) Knowing your efforts can be amplified is very motivating.

Target visceral fat

Visceral fat is stored around your organs in your abdomen and is a risk factor for heart attack, diabetes, and stroke. Catechins in green tea have been shown to reduce this dangerous abdominal fat.

In one study, participants who were given the catechins lost 7.7% of their visceral fat while the control group lost only 0.3%.(4)

You’ll slim down now, but you’ll lower your chances of developing serious disease in the future. Protect your health long term.

Boost your metabolic rate

Studies show that a supplement of green tea can raise the rate at which your body burns calories by about 4%.(5) It’s like the moving sidewalk at the airport that speeds up your pace without you changing a thing.

Another study found that, after only 2 months, obese patients who used green tea burned 183 more calories per day than the patients that didn’t. After 3 months, the people in the green tea group shed 7 more pounds than the others.(6)
